Sometimes it appears as pearly flakes, or as a white crystalline powder, greasy to the touch. When heated to 100\u00b0 it loses water and slowly converts into metaboric acid (HBO2), at 140\u00b0 tetraboric acid (H2B4O7) is formed, and at higher temperatures it turns into boron trioxide (B2O3). Solubility: 1 g of boric acid is dissolved in 20 ml of water, 3.6 ml of boiling water, 16 ml of alcohol, 6 ml of boiling alcohol, 4 ml of glycerol (85%). With glycerol, boric acid forms a complex that results in a stronger acid than boric acid.
