Rhombic crystals, hard, white, granulated or crystalline powder, white, odorless, with a saline taste less unpleasant than that of sodium bicarbonate. Slightly efflorescent in dry air. It becomes anhydrous at 150\u00b0. The aqueous solution is slightly alkaline to litmus. When red, it decomposes, releasing flammable gases with a pungent and pungent odor and leaving sodium carbonate as a residue. Each gram of potassium citrate dihydrate represents approximately 10.2 mmol of sodium and 3.4 mmol of citrate. Due to its alkaline character it may be incompatible with acidifying agents.
